Volunteers- the lifeblood of the organisation

The Stuart Low Trust has 55 volunteers. They give over 5000 hours per year to the organisation.

Volunteers are vital

This Volunteers’ Week we are recognising the important role that they play at SLT. SLT is a very small organisation, with few paid staff so our volunteers are vital to delivering the range of award winning activities.

Our volunteers come from a range of backgrounds, with the vast majority coming from Islington and the surrounding areas. They are the lifeblood of the organisation.

New volunteering opportunities

The board of trustees are made up of volunteers, who use their skills and experience to support the work of the organisation. I became chair in November 2017 and in February 2018 the board held an away day, where we discussed the future direction of the organisation. We devised a business plan with three key objectives; starting a younger people’s project, setting up a befriending project and increasing the frequency of some of our other services.

We see volunteers as vital to these new projects and excited to develop these volunteering opportunities that will allow local people to give back to their community.

Participants become volunteers

Many of our volunteers are also participants and we are proud that we can support those who use our services into being people who support our services. Our Volunteer Coordinator is able support this journey through a robust training programme and one to one guidance.
