It was a momentous Friday evening on 21 July when Stuart Low Trust founder member Virginia Low chaired her final AGM as part of our Annual Celebration and Volunteer Awards at St Mary’s Community Centre, Islington. Predictably – for everyone except Virginia, it seemed! – a few tears flowed, especially following a heartfelt tribute from long time SLT participant Joyce Dutch.
Any sadness soon turned to laughter thanks to the sleight of hand and ready wit of magician and psychological entertainer Gareth Foreman, this year’s Guest of Honour.
Virginia will remain as SLT’s Chair of Trustees until September and after retiring from the post will continue to be a familiar face at Friday Evening Events and to participate in the SLT Choir.
Our Annual Celebration and Volunteer Awards is an opportunity to acknowledge the crucial role of our amazing roster of volunteers, without whom we would be unable to run any of our events.
This year we set a record with 96 certificates awarded to Outstanding Volunteers across all our projects – including our Friday Evening Events, Choir, Gardening Project, Philosophy Forum, outings and more – plus two for our brilliant corporate partners the British Medical Journal and the Macquarie Infrastructure Debt Team, each of whose staff have gone above and beyond to support us in a whole host of areas, not least fundraising!
