One of the Stuart Low Trust’s longest serving volunteers, Lou Baron, and SLT’s Chair of Trustees Virginia Low have both received commendations in Voluntary Action Islington’s Volunteer of the Year Awards 2015.
Presentations were made by the Mayor of Islington at Voluntary Action Islington’s premises on Pentonville Road on 4th November.
Lou, a regular kitchen volunteer since SLT’s Friday Evening Events began in 2001, received her commendation in the Older Volunteer of the Year category. Her citation read:
Lou Baron is an incredible lady in her 80s. She became a member of the steering group for setting up the Stuart Low Trust after he took his own life. For many years she was a trustee. She is also famous for her wonderful cups of tea on Friday Evenings, 52 weeks a year, for between 60 to 100 people for the last 15 years.
Virginia was cited in the Trustee of the Year category:
Since 1999, Virginia has been Chair of Trustees and held regular monthly/ 6-weekly trustee meetings. Virginia is also a group leader for the monthly outings, ensuring participants enjoy their day and the picnic which is provided. She also attends and supports the SLT Choir and has helped out at our Saturday Workshops.
Winner in the Volunteer of the Year (age 26-60) category, Gareth Foreman, also has a Stuart Low connection – a talented magician, Gareth has given performances at SLT’s Friday Evening Events!
